Signs of anxiety: How to deal with / stop anxiety

Anxiety is one of the leading psychiatric disorder in the world.

The signs of anxiety are not life threatening but they disturb normal daily life style and mental peace of the victim.

There are also some instances where anxiety disorder can sprout out some other related health complexities like high blood pressure, cardiac- palpitations, depression, dizziness, headaches etc. So dealing with anxiety is early is important to avoid further complications.

Signs of anxiety:

The signs include nervousness, insufficient respiration (improper inhalation and exhalation), increased heart rate and pulse, sweating, flushing, trembling etc.. And we all of us experience some of them in day to day life in carrying out our activities. But if these signs last for 6 months or more consistently then the person is diagnosed to be suffering from anxiety disorder.

Further signs of anxiety differ based on the type of anxiety disorder. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) classifies the anxiety disorders broadly into 5 types .

Types of anxiety disorders & their peculiar signs of anxiety.

The 5 types of anxiety disorders include

1 Generalized Anxiety Disorder, (GAD) ; Here the person feels extremely anxious about every day situations than that is necessary.

2. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, (OCD) ; This type of anxiety disorder in person makes him look amusing to others due to his tendency for recurrent or repetitive behaviors like hand washing, counting, checking, or cleaning etc. Performing these repeated actions provide them temporary relief and not doing so makes their anxiety even worse.

3. Panic disorder ; It is characterized by sudden attacks of terror, with symptoms like pounding of heart, sweating, weakness, dizziness etc. These attacks are spontaneous and during the attack the person may may flush or feel chilled or feel numb.

4. Social Anxiety Disorder or Social Phobia ; It is a anxiety disorder where in the person is overwhelmingly anxious in social life. He is overly self-conscious to speak, eat or drink before others in social situations or gatherings.

5. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This anxiety disorder is acquired by the persons who have faced life threatening dangers, injuries or events. They feel excessively nervous in even non dangerous situations.

 How to deal with these signs of anxiety ?

Anxiety symptoms disturb normal daily activities if not treated or controlled in proper way. To stop anxiety one may require both medication and psychotherapy for faster and effective recovery from the disorder.

Medication therapy aims to calm your mind by sedative drugs while psychotherapy help you understand and gain control over your anxiety related behavior. But both of these techniques require help of an expert in the field and in severe cases their help is inevitable.

But if these signs of anxiety are less severe and are in initial stages, then you may try self applicable techniques like yoga, mediation, breathing techniques. These techniques yield you results after some initial practice but are worth a try. They prevent further progression of signs of anxiety and also help you overcome the mood or thoughts which make you prone to anxiety.
